How to make a Gluehwein
To make a Gluehwein, heat gently and pour into a mug: 33⅓ oz red wine, 4¼ oz water, 12 oz simple syrup, 1 cinnamon and 3 cloves. Garnish with lemon peel.

Warm a mug by filling it with hot water, then empty it.

Heat red wine, water, simple syrup, cinnamon and cloves gently in a small saucepan (or the microwave) until steaming, without letting it boil.

Pour it into the warmed mug.

Why heat it gently? Boiling dulls the flavors.
