Short Answer: Old Fashioned
I like to mix mine up with replacing simple syrup/sugar cubes with maple syrup.
Here’s the video of him creating one.
In the 2011 romantic comedy “Crazy, Stupid, Love,” Ryan Gosling’s character, Jacob Palmer, becomes the stylish and suave mentor to Steve Carell’s character, Cal Weaver. As Jacob imparts his wisdom on love and style, one question lingers in the minds of viewers: What is he sipping on throughout the film? What may be obvious to some, may question others. In the video above he’s creating an Old Fashioned. A classic cocktail consisting of whiskey, simple syrup, Angostura bitters and an orange peel for garnish.
I just turned 21 at the time when this film came out(i know so long agoo…) so this really intrigued me so I got my first old fashioned because of Ryan Gosling, I mean because of Crazy, Stupid, Love. It’s still my go-to when there’s nothing on the cocktail menu that catches my eye or especially when they have an house old fashioned. I would describe it as spirit forward with a balanced finish. So if you’re new to the world of cocktails, or just starting your journey I feel that everyone has to try an old fashioned at least once.
