Snake Juice

Created by Alec Espiritu

Snake Juice is inspired by Tom Haverford's drink in Parks and Rec. The show gives no recipe, so this gin, dark rum and coffee liqueur version is my take.

A snifter of dark coffee-brown cocktail on a mossy stone ledge in a dark jungle, with green snakes on a branch above and coiled around a vine.

You'll need

Pairs well with: Simple syrup · All syrups

Instructions

Shake the gin, dark rum, Kahlua, espresso and simple syrup with ice until cold.

The story

A snifter of dark coffee-brown cocktail on a mossy stone ledge in a dark jungle, with green snakes on a branch above and coiled around a vine.

I tried recreating Snake Juice, Tom Haverford's drink from Parks and Rec (Season 3, Episode 13, "The Fight"). The show never gives a recipe, only that it is a Kahlua-style liquor made from various alcohols, sugar and coffee, so this is my best guess and not an official recipe. I used gin, dark rum, Kahlua and strong coffee, which is the mix fans most often cite. The real one is 140 proof, and this is much lighter. Start with the simple syrup at 1/4 oz and add more only if you want it sweeter. For a lighter drink, use 1/2 oz each of gin and rum and 2 oz of coffee.
