How to make an A1
To make an A1, shake with ice and strain into a cocktail glass: 2⅔ oz gin, 1½ oz Grand Marnier, ⅓ oz lemon juice and ¼ oz grenadine.

Chill a cocktail glass: fill it with ice and water while you mix, then tip it out.

Add gin, Grand Marnier, lemon juice and grenadine to a cocktail shaker.

Fill the shaker with ice.

Shake hard for 10-15 seconds, until the outside is frosty.

Strain into the chilled cocktail glass.
Why shake? Lemon juice needs a hard shake to mix and chill properly.

What can I use instead of grenadine?
Raspberry syrup will work.
Can I make A1s in a batch?
Yes. For 6 drinks, mix 15¾ oz gin, 9 oz Grand Marnier, 2¼ oz lemon juice and 1¼ oz grenadine in a jug and chill it. Add 5⅔ oz of cold water to stand in for the dilution from shaking. Pour over fresh ice to serve.
